Bible Scholarship - Criticism, 'Jesus Quest', History, etc

Warning and Disclaimer!

These websites do not necessarily represent my views on the subjects they deal with, and I have no connection with them or control over their content. They deal with matters such as historicity of the Gospels; social background of the bible; the bible & archaeology; the "Quest for the Historical Jesus"; "The Jewishness of Jesus" etc.

These sites contain scholarly material (and some not so scholarly!) from various theological viewpoints ranging from Conservative Fundamentalist or Evangelical, through Messianic Legalism, to a Liberal/Radical viewpoint, or even complete Secularism. So be warned!

This section is intended mainly for those doing tertiary study in biblical-literary-critical fields. It is not intended for new believers. If you are young in the faith, some of this information may just confuse you. Some of the links below are not Christian sites, or may contain heretical errors.

So tread carefully and take everything you read with a big grain of salt.

A_Test_of_Time:_The_Bible,_from_Myth_to_History - synopsis of book by Mark Rohl challenging the generally accepted dating of Egyptian dynasties. Rohl is apparently an agnostic, but he believes this new dating system substantially vindicates the Old Testament as history. Among other things he finds evidence in the Tel el-Amarna letters of many of the biblical characters mentioned in the books of Samuel, Kings & Chronicles, including even a letter allegedly from King Saul to Pharaoh. Interesting, and if true, a major breakthrough in biblical scholarship!
